Ah, yes. As I've come to understand, this is shockingly more common that I'd have believed.
[ he talks with his hands a lot for the record, and is currently doing it now. constant wide gestures. ]
It's very strange to hear that one's entire life's purpose, study, and soul is simply ... non-existent in other worlds. I suppose it doesn't help that it is slightly difficult to demonstrate when the Weave is suppressed here, though I imagine there have been flashes and bits of the arcane enough.
The Weave. [A slow nod. Sorry, she knows she should be thinking of archaic looms and the potency of women's work combined with witchcraft, ala Ariadne or the Fates, but reality tv and hair politics conjure a different picture.] Sounds poetic.
To be fair, sounds like most things I know about don't exist outside my little corner of the universe, either. We could call it even?
[She holds out a hand to shake.]
Hi. I'm Camille. I'm a reporter, and I have no idea what's going on here.
[ he, for better or worse, has never watched mtv in the early 2000s, so perhaps they are even on missing important cultural touchstones. ]
I'm finding every world I speak on has something new and thrilling the next does not have, so I'm sure there's much to be discussed about your home.
[ he will shake!!!! so he knows what a handshake is. ]
Ah, a journalist! A noble profession, for the most part. [ for the most part???? ] I used to speak to the correspondents at the Wazoo fairly frequently, but I was never much into politics. They did begin rejecting my crossword puzzle submissions for being "annoyingly esoteric" however ...
[If they get a tv they are giving him a crash course immediately, real housewives marathon
Also help, this is vaguely endearing? At least she doesn't have to explain what she is.]
You're a crossword guy. I can respect that. [She dallies. Not as passionately as he might, but it's funny to think that some arcane wizard might spend a Sunday agonizing over 34 Down and 11 Across.] They probably didn't want to close the reader gap. Nobody feels smart when only two people can solve the puzzle.
[ he would honestly probably happily watch real housewives, he has huge wine aunt energy. ]
I have my hobbies of course - I enjoy a good glass of wine, tearing through an enticing book with Tara, strategizing new lanceboard games [chess its chess], and I dabble in cooking - a bit of a mundane craft to balance all of my time amongst the arcane.
But admittedly most of my time is devoted to research and study, honing my craft and perfecting the art of my magic. At least until recently, when it has now been devoted to casting fireball at goblins and wading through knee-high piles of viscera in a Mind Flayer colony.
I do rather like to think so. One has to have hobbies, after all. And cooking is more like magic than some would have you believe. A solid base of core knowledge to be built upon with creativity, and accidents tend to end in flames.
[ no its a correct assessment. very little toxic masculinity to be found in here. plenty of other toxins, but not that one. ]
Ah, yes. An illithid is a creature from the Astral Sea, often about 7 to 8 feet tall, gray skinned with tentacles that protrude from around the mouth. Their sole diet is the ... well. Brains of sentient creatures.
Huh. [She thinks a moment, lip between her teeth.] If cooking is like magic and chemistry is like cooking, maybe there's more to alchemy than history gave credit for.
[yeah i saw your difficult person chart fix your grandiosity Gale.

I don't know, maybe you should be a little less gracious. [a beat.] For the record, I—
[Jesus Christ. Her nose wrinkles and she casts her gaze outward, arms folded.]
"Witchcraft" and "wizardry" doesn't figure into my daily life. At all. I thought you were either crazy or playing into setting.

[He's not afraid of a feminine side either. Though maybe purple was a ferociously manly colour in Narnia.]
Sorry, "mind-flayer"?

You know what? I'm glad to be boring.
